About me

Hello, my name is Lenny and fish are delicious! In November, 2013 I moved to Vientiane, Laos to take up a placement working at The National University of Lao PDR in partnership with the NSW Department of Primary Industries to design and construct fish ladders. Fish ladders provide connectivity for fish migrating upstream or downstream through man-made infrastructure.

The Mekong River has been dammed in many locations, blocking the passage of migrating fish upstream. These blockages directly impact the fish population in the Mekong and subsistence farmers that rely on them for their livelihoods.

The project is part of a long-standing partnership between Australia and Laos to assess the flooding and water management infrastructure along the Mekong River and the impact that this has on the subsistence farmers. My role will be to assess this infrastructure and find sites where fish ladders can be installed.
This blog will be the best way to keep up to date with the latest in this adventure.

    It was hard leaving you,
As my heart fell through and true,
    Blue as the night sky,
I can’t understand why I sighed and cried.
    Knowing I’ll see you again,
    As true love never ends,
    My heart starts to bend,
I try to remember it’s only a year and it ends.
You my love, will always be near,
Cause’ in my heart, you are my closest dear.
Breaking away from this yearning of closeness,
I’ll tell you this, these feelings are quite atrocious.
As I can hear and feel the thumping and bumping of my heart.
My head spins like a rolling cart.
Don’t worry dear, I’ll miss you right here.
I’ll try my best to give these feelings of pain a rest.
I know the next step, is only one foot away.
    My love to you always,
    Your love
